Mother's Day and this week.....

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Mother's Day! I had so much fun at our Mother's Day Tea on Friday and the tea really kicked off a great Mother's Day weekend.

Thank you all for the wonderful teacher appreciation gifts last week. Mrs. Culley and I are overwhelmed with the generosity of each family. We feel blessed and lucky.......

I had a little speech prepared to say to all the Moms at the Tea, however, I just ran out of time. So, I will save it for the end of the year party. Thank you for your patience.

Time is really flying by. We have two weeks left in the school year and our new unit is Summer Fun. We will have Show and Tell this Friday.

Looking forward to a fun week!

Warmly,

Juli

VIP Day/Flowering of the Cross/St. Matthew's 30th Birthday

This Wednesday is VIP Day/Flowering of the Cross and St. Matthew's 30th Birthday!

  • Please have your child bring one flower to school on Wednesday either store bought or from your garden. Your child's VIP will help him/her place the flower on the cross during the service.
  • VIP's need to arrive to the classroom at 10:15. You may be your child's VIP.
  • We are lining up and walking to the sanctuary at 10:50. Services will start at 11:00.
  • At 10:50, when we leave the classroom, your child will be under the care of their VIP. Basically, it will be as if the VIP will be signing your child out for the day. We will sit as a class and go to the Birthday celebration together. However, with the large amount of people in the sanctuary and celebration, it will be very difficult to stay together at all times. Therefore, having their VIP keep an eye on their child will be necessary to stay together.
  • Mrs. Culley and I will be the class.
  • After the service, we will sing Happy Birthday and have cupcakes outside to celebrate the 30th Birthday of St. Matthew's. Please let your VIP know to "hold hands" with their child. It will be very crowded for this celebration.
  • After the Birthday celebration, there will be a "NOON RELEASE" and your child's VIP is welcome to take your child or meet you for dismissal. We will not dismiss as a class.
  • Please do not hesitate to ask questions through email or give me a call.

Mrs. Culley and I are excited for such a festive day!

Reminder for the week!

The Road Rally was a huge hit and lots of fun! Please check out the pictures under March 2010 (Links of Interest) to see the pictures.

A few quick reminders:

1) Easter Egg hunt on Wednesday, March 31. I notice I had a typo, the kids need to bring 12 plastic eggs in by Wednesday. I apologize and if you send 13, no worries, we can always use the extra eggs!

2) No school on Friday, April 2 and Monday, April 5.

Welcome Back from Spring Break!

We have a very exciting and busy few weeks coming up in the 3's classroom at St. Matthew's!

1) Friday, March 26, 2010, our class will join Mrs. Bonura's class for the road rally. Please have your child bring their big wheel, scooter, or tricycle to school on Friday, March 26. We have an exciting road rally planned for the kids to end the unit on transportation. The teachers will meet you in the parking lot as you arrive to tag each vehicle with it's owner's name. If you have a helmet for your child, please bring it along to school and we will tag it with their name also.

During play time, we will have the children participate in a parade. They will also practice parking their vehicle and learn about safety and traffic signs.

If it rains on the 26th, the road rally will be held in Huffman Hall.

Please email or call me with any questions.

2) On Wednesday, March 31, we will have an Easter Egg hunt in the playground at school. Please bring 13 plastic Easter Eggs filled with goodies to school on or before March 31st. We will make Easter Egg baskets with the class.

3) No school on Friday, April 2 or Monday April 5 for the Easter Holiday.

4) Wednesday, April 7, is the Flowering of the Cross Ceremony and VIP Day. Each child in our class is allowed to bring a Very Important Person (VIP) to school on April 7. This person will sit with the child they are visiting during Chapel and the Flowering of the Cross Ceremony.

Each child will bring from home one single flower with a 6" stem to school. During the Flowering of the Cross Ceremony, the VIP will help their child lay the flower on the Cross.

Please let me know if you have any questions! I will send home reminders for all events listed and a flyer for the Road Rally.

On a side note, I have a new camera (I am too sad to think about where my old camera may be....) so, I will be updating the blog with upcoming new pictures!

Parent/Teacher Conferences and other news

Valentine's Day was very fun for our class! The children had a great time making their "mailboxes" which were overflowing with mail by the end of the day. Sarah's mom, Mrs. Madureira, brought in a delicious and giant Valentine's Day heart cookie for the whole class to share. We had a great turnout with all the kids wearing red. Mrs. Culley and I were blessed to have lots of Valentine's treats and even beautiful tulips from the kiddos. I will also add that I have given up sugar for the week!

As a reminder, this Friday (the 19th) we will have no school in order to have parent/teacher conferences. Childcare will be provided for your St. Matthew's child during your conference. I am emailing each parent to confirm the time that you signed up for. If you have a conflict or are unable to make the conference, please let me know as soon as you can and we can reschedule. If something comes up on Friday, please call Mrs. Noack and she will let me know, as I will not be able to take calls while I am in conferences.

Please also note I think I am finally up and running with pictures again. I have added January pictures and Donuts for Dads pictures. The pictures turned out great. (To view pictures, see sidebar "Links of Interest" and select photo album you would like to view!)

Don't forget that La Noche is right around the corner on February 27! Please make sure you have purchased your tickets. Mrs. O'Neil finished our class project for the auction and if you have not had a chance to view it, please stop by the front office. Our project turned out amazing, and I cannot take one bit of credit. That all goes to Mrs. O'Neil.

Next week, we will be back to our regular schedule. We will also be changing units to "Community Helpers". I will keep everyone posted on more information regarding our class after conferences.

January 31, 2010: Kelly O'Neil came to our class and worked on the La Noche project!

The month of February is full of exciting events! First, I will quickly recap some highlights in the past few weeks. The kids have been loving the Fairy Tale and Nursery Rhyme Unit. The dress-up costumes have been a huge hit. The kids especially love dressing up as knights and slaying the dragon in the classroom. Donuts For Dads was fully attended and fun. A big extra thanks to Bess Carsner who not only brought the drinks and donuts to the classroom early but manage to sneak back to the classroom while we were all in Chapel and clean up. She was an angel to our class. Another big thanks to Kelly O'Neil for spearheading the La Noche project. Kelly visited our class last week and each child made a unique bird painting. Kelly has been working very hard and I am looking forward to seeing the final project. While I am mentioning La Noche, I want to remind everyone to buy their tickets!

February calendars will be going home tomorrow.
* No school on February 15 and 19.
* Parent-Teacher conferences on February 19. Please sign-up on list posted at classroom door.
* Red Day Party: February 12, Valentine's Day Party. Please have your child bring an empty tissue box to school by February 8. Have your child bring a card for everyone in the class. Please no candy. And don't forget to have your child wear a red shirt!!!
* La Noche: February 27, Buy tickets ASAP!!!
Please note the new slide show under "Peek in our classroom" is from the day Kelly O'Neil came to the class and worked with each child.
